Zara is a multidisciplinary artist that practises in puppetry, costume, set design and storytelling. Having started her artistic career studying Textile design and Print in Sydney, she then moved to London in 2008 and started a 3 year apprenticeship at Prangsta Costumiers learning all the skills of the costume trade as well as flair for resourcefulness, upcycling, and collecting like a Magpie.
During the last bit of her apprenticeship she became deeply inspired by the work of 'Theatre of Dolls' when she discovered them busking out of a suitcase. Since writing to them expressing a desire to work for them she has assisted them in various performances including; 'The Holy Dress' in their retrospective at The Barbican, Petersham Play house, and also in constructing a window display of exquisite little characters made for Hendricks Gin titled 'The Most Unusual 13th Day of Christmas'. Their work continues to inspire her.
Zara has been collaborating and creating sculpture and performance alongside members of House Of Doll, Red Rash inn and the Mutoid Waste Company ( Both recycler extroadinaires). She made the props and puppets for the 'Salon Carousel' bar and turned it into a cabinet full of curiousities and a toyshop full of misfits.
Side Show Attractions and an interactive game named 'Who Nose?'. A political and satirical piece that reflects Pinochio and his nose amongst todays politicians.
Zara Fox is annually compiling the the exhibition 'A Doll a Day', originally an idea that began between her and with the artist and sculptor Dagger Bliss. They aim to include mixed media works cross the spectrum but under the umbrella idea and subject of 'doll'. It is a platform for artists and creators to meet each other.
